WHO WE ARE
A Student Platform for Global Cooperation
FN-Studentene Norge, or the United Nations Student Association of Norway (UNSAN), is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit student organisation dedicated to strengthening young people’s understanding of the United Nations and the international system. Grounded in the principles, institutions, and practices of the UN, we seek to enhance global awareness, foster informed dialogue, and promote respect for universal human rights as integral components of a just, peaceful, and sustainable world. While the Sustainable Development Goals constitute an important point of reference for our activities, they are approached as part of a broader framework of global governance, international cooperation, and collective responsibility.
As a nationwide student organisation, UNSAN provides a platform for students and young people to engage critically with international politics, multilateral cooperation, and global challenges. Through academically informed outreach and skills-oriented activities, we aim to equip members with the knowledge and analytical tools necessary to navigate and contribute to international processes. In line with the United Nations’ Youth, Peace and Security agenda, particular emphasis is placed on empowering young people through capacity-building, training, and meaningful participation in discussions on peace, development, and international responsibility. We understand today’s students not merely as future leaders, but as present stakeholders in the shaping of international norms and practices.
Originally established as the UN Student Association Oslo, UNSAN has since developed into a national network with active local chapters in Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim, Agder, Tromsø, Lillehammer, and Stavanger. Across these chapters, we organise seminars, lectures, debates, workshops, and conferences that combine academic perspectives with practical insights into the workings of the UN and the international system. Through collaboration with embassies, international and non-governmental organisations, and academic institutions, we facilitate encounters between students and practitioners, thereby bridging the gap between theoretical learning and real-world international engagement. Open to all students in higher education across Norway, UNSAN serves as an inclusive learning community committed to informed reflection, competence-building, and constructive engagement with global affairs.
